For standard luggage, boxing is not required. Bags, suitcases, and soft-sided luggage can be shipped as they are, packed as you would normally when checking bags with an airline. However, certain item types do require specific packaging, and the condition of your luggage matters regardless of type.
Standard luggage and bags
Suitcases, duffel bags, and similar luggage do not need to be boxed. Pack your bag securely, ensure it is fully closeable, and attach your Luggage Forward shipping tags firmly before collection. Take extra care with fragile or delicate items inside, as your bags will be subject to standard carrier handling throughout transit.
Items that must be boxed or placed in a travel case
The following item types require appropriate packaging before collection:
- Bicycles — Must be fully dismantled and packed in a corrugated cardboard box or hard-sided travel case. For full guidance, see our article: How Do I Pack a Bike?
- Golf clubs — Must be placed in a covered golf travel bag or hard-sided case. Loose clubs cannot be accepted. For category dimensions, see our article: What Can I Ship?
- Boxes and trunks — Shipped as standard items. Boxes must be securely sealed with pressure-sensitive packing tape. For more detail, see our article: Can I Ship Boxes?
Ski and snowboard equipment
Skis and snowboards are shipped in their travel case and do not require additional boxing, provided they are within a properly fitted case. For category dimensions and boot bag requirements, see our article: What Can I Ship?
Luggage condition
While boxing is not required for standard luggage, bags must be in good condition and fully closeable for collection. Luggage that cannot be securely closed, is structurally compromised, or is held together with external tape or straps may not be eligible for collection or could be at greater risk of damage during transit.
