Self-clearance is a customs requirement at certain international destinations where the recipient of a shipment must be physically present to clear their bags through customs upon arrival. In these cases, the bags cannot be released and delivered to your address until you have personally completed the customs clearance process at the destination.
How self-clearance affects your shipment
For destinations that require self-clearance, Luggage Forward will transport your bags to the destination country and hold them pending your customs clearance. Once you have completed the required customs process, delivery to your final address can proceed. Each countries process is unique, and we'll share those details with you after your booking.
Because self-clearance is dependent on your personal arrival and the customs procedures at the destination, the timeline for final delivery falls outside of Luggage Forward's control. For this reason, the Double Money-Back Guarantee does not apply to shipments where self-clearance is required.
How to find out if your destination requires self-clearance
Self-clearance requirements vary by country and, in some cases, by region within a country. The most reliable way to confirm whether your destination requires self-clearance is to contact our Client Experience Team before booking. A Client Experience Representative will advise on the requirements specific to your route.
