For our international bookings, some countries require us to provide a copy of your passport along with the other customs documentation. This helps expedite the customs clearance process and minimizes unnecessary duties and fees. It is important that the passport is legible so that customs can see the picture, expiration date, passport number and signature.
For certain international shipments, passport information is required as part of the customs documentation process. This is a government requirement at the destination country level — not a Luggage Forward policy — and is necessary to clear your bags through customs.
Why customs requires it
Many countries require the passport details of the shipper or recipient to verify the ownership of personal goods crossing their border. This is standard practice for international shipments of personal effects and ensures your bags can be properly identified and released by customs authorities at the destination.
How your information is used
Your passport information is used solely for the purpose of completing the customs documentation required for your shipment. It is included in the paperwork submitted to customs authorities at the destination country and is handled in accordance with Luggage Forward's privacy policy.
When passport information is required
Passport information is only required for international shipments where the destination country mandates it as part of the customs clearance process. It is not required for domestic shipments within the United States.
If you are unsure whether your destination requires passport information, our Client Experience Team will advise you at the time of booking.
Providing your passport information
You will be prompted to provide the necessary information during the booking process if it is required for your route. Please ensure the details you provide match your passport exactly, as discrepancies can result in customs delays or holds.
Incomplete or inaccurate documentation can affect the processing of your shipment and voids the Double Money-Back Guarantee. For more information, see our article: Is Customs Paperwork Required?
